Rules on in-season FA, off-season RFA, franchise tags, and waivers
In-Season FA (UFA):
1. In-Season FA will be open Tuesday 12:01 AM EST every week
a. Will close for players playing Thursday on Wednesday at 5:59 PM EST every week
b. Will close for players playing Sunday/Monday on Saturday at 11:59 PM EST every week
2. Teams must have roster space, $, and contract years available to bid on FAs
a. Teams can only use the $/y they had at the time of their first bid on a player
b. If a team drops a player after an initial bid is made that $/y cleared from the drop will not be allowed to be used in the bidding for the player that was bid on before the drop
c. Years limit for bids is 3 years, even for rookies
3. Initial 24 hour period is to post interest and must be posted in time to expire before the deadlines mentioned above
a. If more than 1 team bids on a player in the initial 24 hour period, the bidding will continue until either all but 1 team posts they are out on a player, or any 24 hour window is reached without a bid
Off-Season RFA:
1. Players who enter the off-season with 0 years left on their contract will enter the RFA pool
2. Teams own the rights to the RFAs that were on their team
3. Each position will have a bidding period during the off-season
a. During each position's window people will be able to open bidding on players in the RFA pool at that position.
b. Initial 24 hour period is for teams to post interest
c. If multiple teams bid in the first 24 hours, the next 24 hour window is open for those teams to bid further on the player
d. Order for bidding is QB Week 1, LB week 2, RB W3, WR W4, TE W5, DB W6, DL W7, and K W8
4. After the bidding concludes the team that owns the right to the RFA has the right to sign the player for the final bid that was placed on the player during the bidding window
a. If the team with the rights to RFA decline to sign the player, the team that posted the highest bid wins the player
5. Any player in the RFA pool that does not get a bid during this window will be allowed to be re-signed by the team that holds the RFA rights to that player
6. RFA bidding has no $ limit, but is capped at 3 years
7. New bids must beat the highest bid in total $, ex. a $2/1y bid does not beat a $1/2y bid and a $2/3y bid does not beat a $6/1y bid, the new bid must be worth more money than the previous bid.
Retired Players:
1. If a player retires, teams have the option to drop the player for free
2. If the team does not drop a player after he retires and the player comes back the team that owns that player will have the rights to that player
a. If 2 happens, the players contract years will still count down every off-season just as every other players contract does
Contract Extensions:
1. Teams will have 3 years each off-season to use to extend 2 players
2. One player can be extended for 2 years and another for 1 year. Teams do NOT have to use these years and do not have to use all 3 if they decide to extend players
3. A 1 year extension adds $2 to a players contract
a. Example: Team A extends Christian McCaffrey $4/2y by 1 year. The new contract will be $6/3y
4. A 2 year extension adds $3 to a players contract
a. Example: Team A extends Christian McCaffrey $4/2y by 2 years. The new contract will be $7/4y
5. Any player is eligible for an extension, the player does not have to be a 0 year contract player
Waivers:
1. In-season waivers:
a. Players with 1y will have their $ amount cut in half for the remainder of the season
b. Players with 2y will have their $ amount cut in half for this season and next
c. Players with 3y+ will have their $ amount cut in half for this season plus any remaining years minus 1
d. Players can be claimed off waivers at which time the team waiving the player does not owe anything towards dropping that player
2. Off-season waivers:
a. Players with 0/1y are free drops
b. Players with 2y+ will have their $ amount cut in half for duration of the contract minus 1 year
c. Players can be claimed off waivers at which time the team waiving the player does not owe anything towards dropping that player
