So I had not realized it, but with teams having a bye week in week 13, that would be in our first round of the playoffs.
The simple solution here is to extend the season 1 week this season and start the playoffs in week 14, but I am open to other ideas.

What week would be the championship weekend then? If it is week 17 I dont think that would be good due to teams sitting players before the playoffs and bad teams putting guys on the injury list.

Obviously not ideal, but we don’t have much of a choice. Can’t have bye weeks during the playoffs

I believe it would be week 17 which would kill a lot of teams if they made it to the super bowl. ex- you have Pat Mahomes, he carries the Chiefs to a 11-4 record in week 16. He’s having MVP numbers and is the whole reason you are in the super bowl, but now Andy Reid has decided to bench him in wk 17 and you are screwed at QB. That would suck if you made it to the SB

That doesn’t help. You would still have byes during the playoffs

Only other option is to shorten the playoffs. I’d rather take my chances that a player sits, but that’s just me.

While I also don't like having the championship in week 17, I am also not a fan of cutting the number of teams down even just for a year. There will likely be more than 8 teams that finish over .500 and in such a short season if you finish with a winning record I think you should at least have a chance of making the playoffs

I think this won’t affect many teams, only if you have a player who is on a really good team and is secured for a bye week in the playoffs. So pretty much not tp big of a deal considering we need more teams in the playoffs for competition.

This is a bit of a stretch, but you guys may have asked for other options.
1. Allow teams to have a 2nd starting QB on the roster for that week in the event that their QB is effected (I have Mahomes, so I'm likely effected if it goes that far).
2. Team gets to apply avg weekly pts as that teams production. For example, if Lamar Jackson averages 19 points per week, that's what he counts for. I dont know if i like this as it can give a team an advantage, but it's an option.
3. We manually apply that players next games points. If it's Mahomes and he sits week 17, we apply the points he plays in the WC round, or the divisional round if they have a bye. This option could really stretch things out to crown a champion, but at least the points are earned.
I personally would go with no. 1. Treat it with the same stance as a QB that is on bye. Teams are allowed to add a 2nd starting QB without facing a penalty. This really will only effect QBs right? Since were only allowed to carry 1. You likely have additional positional players at all other positions on your roster. Your stud may be inactive, but you aren't penalized for carrying more than 1.

I don't see why an 8 team playoff would be an issue. That's 1/3rd of the league, about 1/3rd of nfl teams make the playoffs 🤷♂️. By far the simplest solution, feel like we are thoroughly over thinking this.

I see what your saying, Sal. And I’m for it, as this isn’t a 32 team league. It’s 24 teams, and 8 teams in the playoffs is perfect in my opinion. I mean, in the NFL there is 14 teams in the playoffs. So that means 33% of the teams in our league will make the playoffs, as in NFL it is 43%. So that isn’t bad at all considering the restraints we have to follow of technically 16 games.

I didnt even think about them adding another wildcard team, totally forgot about that lol, but yeah I think for this year it just makes the most sense to cut it to 8, we can always go back to 10 or even 12 next year , if anything it makes every week matter more.

It’s not as simple as that. Cutting to 4 playoff teams per division does a few things.
1. With only 1 wildcard it makes winning your division even more important. Some I’m sure are fine with that.
2 . It makes the schedule extremely important. Typically a league will schedule non division games based on last years finish, in an attempt to keep scheduling as competitive as possible. Obviously we can’t do that here. Since we can’t play every team during the season, scheduling is extremely important
3 Removes bye weeks for the top 2 seeds. With no “home field “ advantage in fantasy football, it completely removes the rewards for an exceptional regular season record. Essentially making the regular season less not more important.
Just my opinion, but just cutting the # of playoff teams is not a “simple” fix to the issue. Obviously we will all have different opinions, but we need to be very clear on the consequences of those decisions. Need to be sure we are at least trying to see the issue from all sides. As I see it the only detriment to moving the playoffs back one week los the possibility that an NFL team might sit a player. With the parity of the league, I believe this is a very small probability. Definitely not a strong enough reason to make a change as drastic as cutting the number of playoff seeds.

I mean yeah those are legit concerns but it seems to me we really dont have a whole.lot of good options. Either 8 team playoff or we have our most important matchup of the year week 17 which I'm certainly against. We could always seed like the NBA for this year, that would eleviate the wildcard issue but it also makes those divisional matchups less important.
