Schedule Issue This Season

So it was brought up earlier during the draft that the NFL has the Buccaneers and Panthers scheduled for a bye week on week 13, which is suppose to be our first round of playoff games.

I know we discussed ideas, including making week 13 a complete bye for the whole league and starting the playoffs week 14, but that would make our championship game week 17 and would run the risk of the two teams having some guys also not playing with teams resting guys for the playoffs.

Another option that was floated was reducing the playoffs to 8 teams, I would tend to be against this as I think it will reduce teams interest that might make the playoffs as teams 9-12 and cause guys to potentially check out earlier.

I would like to hear what guys that own any Buccaneers or Panthers players think, since this will affect them directly

Also with this, I am gonna start putting our 2020 schedule together and was wondering what you guys would rather me do for the non-division matchups

Couple options I thought of (remember weeks 1-3 and 10-12 are divisional weeks)

1. Teams play 4 more teams from their conference and 2 teams from the opposite conference

2. Teams play 1 team from each other division and we have a "rivalry" week in either week 4 or week 9

3. Same thing as option 2, except instead of random from each division, we do what the NFL does and if you win a division you play the other division winners, if you finish 2nd you play all the other 2nd place teams, and so on, and this option would also have a "rivalry" week

Thoughts, other ideas? I would like our league to have some structure to the regular season games if possible

I personally feel like the negative impact of a championship game coming in Week 17 is larger than the impact of the 1st round of the playoffs being week 13. Carolina has Bridgewater and TB has Brady. The rules currently state that a team can carry an additional QB through that week to help negate the loss of points. There are probably 3 additional impact players that week that would be effected. Evans, Godwin, McCaffrey. A championship game being in week 17, you could have more impact players effected, especially at QB, during the biggest game of the season.

We are still a long way away from there so this should not be a surprise to anyone who may be effected... just my opinion.

As far as the other stuff goes, I say option 3, I like the schedule to promote parody. Having the best teams playing the best teams allows the teams that may be struggling to maintain their relevance deeper into the season. The more teams that have a shot at the end of the year, the better..imho.

Both my other leagues, which are 32 team leagues, are giving owners the option to sit players with a week 13 bye in week 12 and points accumulated in week 12 will count for week 13.

I’d be for playing the championship in week 17 rather then starting playoffs starting week 13 with all those teams on bye.

I'm for starting playoffs in week 13 and option 3
